Pakistan allows Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet wife, mother on Dec 25

Islamabad,

Pakistan on Friday said it will allow the wife and mother of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav a meeting on humanitarian grounds. The meeting will take place on December 25.

A staff member from the Indian embassy will be present during the meeting, Foreign Office Spokesman Mohammad Faisal said during a weekly news briefing.

Last month Pakistan had offered to arrange a meeting of Jadhav with his wife on humanitarian grounds after repeated denial of consular access to Jadhav since his arrest and conviction in 2016.

India says Jadhav was a former Naval official, who was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies last March after he crossed over into Pakistan.

In April last year, a Pakistani military court had sentenced him to death on charges of espionage and terrorism. The Army Chief has upheld Jadhav’s conviction. The International Court of Justice has stayed his execution on India‚Äôs appeal.
