Amid claim and counter claim between the Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) and Uttar Pradesh government about the success of the 84-kosi Parikarma, over 1696 sadhus, saints and VHP leaders were arrested in the state today on the opening day of the 20-days long yatra which was by and large peaceful.
Uttar Pradesh government claiming that the ban on the yatra was effective and no one could participate in the parikarma, today issued a state wide alert to all the districts for VHP’s agitation to be held at all the district headquarters tomorrow.
VHP has claimed that the parikarma was kicked off at Saryu ghat when Praveen Bhai Togadia did the puja before his arrest in Ayodhya. The parikarma was slated to start from Makhaura in Basti district.
State Home Secretary Kamal Saxena said here the security level in all the six districts where the yatra would be held would not be lowered and it will continue till September 13 or the date till VHP withdraw its yatra.
He also announced that all the detained or arrested sadhus, saints and VHP leaders would be kept in detention for next 14 days under section 151 of the IPC so that they do not create problem for the government again. Additional Director General of Police( Law and Order0 R K Vishwakarma said fresh alert has been issued in view of the VHP’s call to agitate against the ban tomorrow.
