Agencies, New Delhi The anti rape law Ordinance to be converted into a Bill referred to the GoM is likely to be returned back to the Cabinet after due consideration by it in two days, official sources said today. In the normal case any Bill referred to the GoM takes about months to give their opinion.
However, highly placed sources in the Government said in this case the GOM will refer the Bill back to the Cabinet in just two days time. The GoM is headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The Government is concerned that the new law should not be misued due to the sensitive nature of the issues involved. A senior minister in the government said that after the new law comes into force it will be implemented in letter and spirit by the police force in different parts of the country. The law will be made taking this into consideration. A significant dimension of the Manmohan Singh Cabinet is that at least eight senior ministers are lawyers and they have many questions regarding the finer aspects of the proposed new law.
