A day after CBI director Ranjit Sinha was quoted as saying in a newspaper that the government would have been very happy if Amit Shah had been named in the second charge sheet of the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, BJP leader Arun Jaitley today said there was a need to ‘seriously examine’ the manner in which the UPA used the CBI for its own means.
In his latest blog, Mr Jaitley, terming ‘unconvincing’ Mr Sinha’s clarification the he had been misquoted, said ‘the truth has slipped out’ in terms of how the ruling party is using the CBI to target its political opponents.
‘’Since the statement was expected to attract a lot of adverse comments against the Government, the CBI Director issued an unconvincing clarification the he had been misquoted.
Independent of the CBI Director’s statement and the clarification, as the tenure of the UPA draws to a close, it may be helpful if the process of manipulation of the CBI is seriously examined,’’ Mr Jaitley said in the blog. In an article in a leading national daily, published yesterday, Mr Sinha was quoted as saying that the government would have been very happy if Amit Shah had been named in the second charge sheet of the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
After the article was published the CBI issued a clarification, saying that Mr Sinha had been misquoted and insisted that the probe had been completely free of any kind of political interference.
