Chandigarh, Punjab Local Bodies Minister and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday accepted the invitation extended by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan for attending his swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of Pakistan to be held on August 11, 2018.
Answering to a question during the ‘Meet The Press’ programme in Press Club here, Mr Sidhu said, “It is a great honour for me and I have accepted the invitation. Khan is a sportsman and sportsmen build bridges between the nations, breaks man made barriers and unite the people. Therefore, he can be trusted for his words of going further in improving bilateral relations.”
Khan’s statement that both India and Pakistan should come on dialogue table to resolve the Kashmir issue, Mr Sidhu asserted that he is with the stand taken by the Centre Government on the issue and would not say more than that.
He congratulated Khan for the victory of his party Tehreek-e-Insaaf(PTI) in general elections held in Pakistan last week. PTI has emerged as a single largest party in National Assembly in these elections.
