Work in banks throughout Madhya Pradesh was today paralysed following the two-day nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) comprising nine bank trade unions.

About 40,000 officials and employees are observing the strike in the state.
“About 4,000 branches in Madhya Pradesh remained closed. A rally was taken out by the bank employees in Maharana Pratap Nagar in the state capital this morning and meeting conducted meeting,” State UFBU convenor VK Sharma told UNI.

Mr Shama said the bankers opted for strike to press their demands of pay revision and proposed reforms in the banking sector.

He said the UFBU was compelled to go for agitational path due to the centre’s and Indian Banks Association’s “anti-labour” policy. Officials and employees of regional rural banks also participated in the strike, he added.
Reports of a total strike was received from Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ujjain, Sagar, Rewa and other places in the state, the sources said.
