Narayan Sai, the son of self-proclaimed godman Asaram and a rape accused, was arrested along with his aides Kaushal Thakur alias Bhakat Hanuman, driver Ramesh and a juvenile from Peepli area of Haryana in the wee hours today.
Delhi Police, announcing the arrest at a press meet here, said a case of rape was registered against him and Asaram in Surat by two sisters.
‘’Soon after the case was registered in Surat, the Surat police came to us asking for assistance to arrest the man,’’ said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, SBK Singh.
Delhi Police, working on the initial information provided by the Surat police, had raided various places in Delhi, he said, adding that during one of the raids their driver Ramesh told them that Sai was hiding in Ludhiana, Punjab.
For the purpose, a police team was sent there but it was found that he along with his aide had left that place.
‘’We got to know that this man had left either in a white or a silver car on the national highway 1… several police teams were deployed at intersections on the highway so that he could not slip away,’’ Mr Singh said.
After detaining them, the police brought them to Delhi and interrogated them to ascertain their real identities, he said adding that the arrest was made by Delhi Police alone whereas information was being developed by both Surat as well as Delhi Police.
Sai and his aides are to be produced in the Rohini court where Surat Police would seek their custody, the police said. Asaram has already been arrested.
