Parties across political faultlines in the Lok Sabha today demanded lodging of an FIR regarding the missing files in the coal blocks allocation scam and said those behind it should be found out and punished. In a submission, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said there have been scams in the past but this one went way above all the others. She said the 189 files have not gone missing but have been stolen and even a Law Minister had to resign when this scam came to the light. Ms Swaraj said even a key official associated with the probe is reported to have said that the PM should be questioned to get to the depth of the entire scam.
The PM, Ms Swaraj said, should volunteer to come forward and be probed and there should be no pressure on the CBI so that it can go to the bottom of the entire scam. Shailendra Kumar, SP, said credentials of the CBI have come under a cloud and whoever is responsible for the missing files should be brought to book. Sharad Yadav, JD-U, said it is regrettable that this UPA Government does not act and its coal minister one day says one thing and changes it the very next day. Dara Singh of BSP said an FIR must be registered in the case of missing files as soon as possible and the guilty be punished. Saugata Roy, AITC, sought to know under what rule the debate on the missing coal files is taking place in the House as he said there is no such precedent. Kalyan Banerjee, AITC, said no scam of such gigantic proportions has ever taken place in the country and there was no transparency in the allocation of the black gold.
