Nagaur/Bharatpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his quest for votes for the ruling BJP in December 7 Assembly poll in Rajasthan highlighted his pro-poor agenda and spoke on scams amounting to Rs 12 lakh crore allegedly committed during the erstwhile Congress led regimes.
Addressing election rallies in Jat dominated Nagaur and Bharatpur districts, the Prime Minister struck emotional note harping on his origin from a poor family and held that pro-poor agenda remained top priority in governance under his rule.He did not let off rivals even for references against his caste and parents.
In the meeting in Bharatpur where fairly good number of army personnel hail from, Mr Modi spoke at a length, about surgical strikes and attempted to take credit of grant of the one rank-one pension demand.
He said that under 10-year UPA regime(2004-2014) Pakistan used to see at us with red eyes, Pakistan army used to abet terrorism and promote terrorists on our land, army from across the border at times assailed and killed our soldiers.
On installation of my government we did retaliate and under took surgical strikes on their territory and sent them strong message, however, the Congress people opposed the action and even raised questions about capability and sincerity of our brave soldiers.
The PM also got endorsed the action from audience. He also alleged that a total of 11 lakh crore scams were committed during erstwhile Congress regimes that reigned for many decades. The looted the country by way of coal scam, submarines purchase scam, army purchase/recruitment scam.
On assuming office in 2014 we did stop all this loot, he claimed bewaring people against electing back a Congress government.
Seeking votes for the BJP, he said many states like UP, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had ousted the grand old party from the powers for many years and the BJP/ non Congress governments fared well and Congress has so far failed to return to the power in those states.
In Nagaur, Mr Modi said that a leader (like him) who is emerged to the power from amongst the poor and commoners could only understand and appreciate the needs and hardships of these strata.
“Those elites (read Naamdar-Gandhi) who born with a gold spoon, can neither experience and understand the hardships of poor and commoners nor can think of solving them”, he said, explaining, that is why the previous Congress led regimes over prolonged period of decades could not address and solve any of basic need and problem of these strata.
“I born in a poor family, I saw my mother facing many hardships in the want of basic amenities and that is why soon after assuming the office in New Delhi, I, accorded top priority for implementing agenda for addressing needs of the deprived sections”, the PM said referring schemes and programmes like toilet construction, providing free gas connections to poor families and good houses to homeless households, under the PM Awas Yojna.
He said these initiatives benefited 1.25 crore families with houses and 6 crore poor households with free gas connections.
Invoking Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the Prime Minister quipped “Had a son of a farmer(Sardar Patel) become the first Prime Minister of the country(instead of elite son Nehru), the problems of poor commoners would have been solved much before and many problems would not have even cropped up”.
Seeking votes for his party, Mr Modi said “These initiatives are needed to be continued and for that I do need your blessings once more”.
“I do seek your vote not for the BJP or for myself or ensuring arrangement for bringing up and educating my grand sons or grand daughters, I seek the vote for betterment of life of sons and daughters of poor sections and development of Rajasthan”, he asserted.
Mr Modi also gve another ‘unique’ justification for seeking votes for the BJP saying “There would be conflicting situation, if, a Congress government is formed in this state after assembly elections”.
Elaborating on his point he said “Congress people hit by my reforms and anti-corruption drive are angry with me and on returning to power in Jaipur (after a gap of 5 years), they would confront with Delhi(ruled by BJP) and the state and it’s people would suffer”.
Moreover, I do need more time to eradicate corruption as I could cleanse it only at higher level, lower levels are yet to be cleansed, Mr Modi asserted.
As usual, he also kept at target Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and also yet again raised references made by some Congress leaders about his caste and parents.
Besides, the Prime Minister, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed half a dozen meetings in Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, Chittorgarh and Udaipur districts on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje campaigned in Baran and Jhalawar districts and several Union and State Ministers including Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Dr Mahesh Sharma were also on campaign trail today.
