Modi reiterates faith in cooperative federalism ; seeks cooperation of states for development

Reiterating his Government’s stance over principle of cooperative federalism Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invoked cooperation from states for achieving speedy and desired development and more effective internal security management.

Speaking at the 11th meeting of the Inter State Council here this morning, Mr Modi said “the Centre and States have to walk shoulder to shoulder for development of the country..development is possible only when the states and Centre work in close coordination”. He said “cooperative federalism is matter of faith for my Government” The Prime Minister said better relations between the Centre and state two will ensure good future for every citizen.

He said, more funds have been allocated to the States in 2015-16 compared to 2014-15. Mr Modi said efforts are being made provide more allocations to states from Rs 40,000 crore, kept in the banks for compensatory afforestation and other related environment friendly initiatives.

Over the issue of internal security across the country, Mr Modi said states need to coordinate with each other in this direction. He said sharing of intelligence inputs is must to strengthen internal security. Home Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke at the meeting that was attended by Chief Ministers of various states.
