Modi promises ‘star status’ to Erode

BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today said he was proud that the people of this city were a symbol of purity as it produces turmeric and supplies it to the entire world.

Addressing an election rally here he said Erode will become one of the major business centres once the BJP assumes power in New Delhi.
He sarcastically said he was shocked to know that there was power shortage in the state. ‘People from Gujarat, if they come over here, will also be shocked’, he added in veiled criticism of the Tamil Nadu Government.
Mr Modi said he was happy that this Parliamentary election was different from others and alleged a minister for environment, who was from this state, entered Parliament through Rajya Sabha, made money by selling the country’s natural resources. When it was brought to public notice, she was shunted out.

Instead of giving permission to states for various projects for enhancement of greenery, she only stopped the projects and development of the country, he charged in veiled criticism of minister Jayanthi Natarajan who hails  from Tamil Nadu.

He said Erode farmers’ produce of turmeric, kumkum and Ayurvedic products are used even in United States. These farmers are contributing directly to the country’s economic development, he lauded.
