Miscreants ran amok at Rajiv Gandhi bus stand, thrash locals

Chronicle Reporter, Bareilly

About a dozen masked miscreants ran amok at Rajiv Gandhi Bus Stand on Sunday night. They broke the window panes of several buses that were parked there. They also targeted many shops.

The incident took place at about 10 pm.
The miscreants assaulted local shop owner Mahesh Sahu. They also thrashed two roadside vendors selling phulkis. The miscreants also torched a bike that was parked in the area.

Significantly the miscreants openly thrashed many people and damaged the property but the police did not arrive on time. The local citizens condemned the police for their laxity and shouted slogans. This is the third such incident in a week.

Last week a shop was torched and there was tension between the two groups.
But the police did not act on time and had to face people’s ire. There is tension in the area after the incident. It is believed the accused wanted to spread sensation.

However there is also the possibility that enmity between two groups could have led to the incident. Police said the matter is being investigated. Police are checking the footage of the CCTV cameras of the area.
