Agencies, Nagpur Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati today said Congress was mainly accountable for preventing reservation/promotion for SCs, STs and OBC employees.
Addressing state-level convention of BSP in Nagpur, she said the Congress-led UPA government was in the real sense responsible for not pursuing the issue when Supreme Court’s constitutional body of three judges gave its ruling against SCs/STc reservation in promotion. Mayawati blamed Congress for not following it, and on the contrary, the government had tried to suppress it.
She also blamed that despite ruling the nation for maximum number of years since Independence, Congress has failed to alleviate poverty and unemployment problems among the SCs, STs and the OBCs, resulting in many of them becoming Naxalites. She accused the Congress of destroying reservations provided to the SCs, STs and OBCs under the Constitution. She sought the same reservation policy or the status quo of the reservation which is been in endorsement since 1955.
“Wrong policies of the Congress and the BJP during their respective rules have led to the present situation in the country, including rise in corruption and inflation,” she added. Mayawati supported the demand for separate Vidarbha and Telangana states if she comes to power in Delhi.
