Mamata’s associates will be put behind bars for Saradha scam: Amit Shah

Agencies, Kolkata
Launching a frontal attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the Saradha issue, BJP president Amit Shah today said her associates involved in the multi-crore scam would be put behind bars.
Addressing a rally of party workers in the city’s Burrabazar area, Mr Shah also wanted Ms Banerjee to resign if she failed to rein in her party men from getting involved in corruption.

“When farmers lost their land in Singur and Nandigram, you had fasted for days. But now that 17 lakh poor people have lost their deposits to the Saradha scam, why don’t you now feel like fasting?” he said while addressing a party rally in the city’s Burrabazar area.
“You are not fasting because they are your cronies. We need to know who took away the Saradha scam money. Whether it is Saradha or anything else, we will get the culprits arrested and put them behind bars,” Mr Shah, who was on his maiden visit to the state as party president, said.
His vitriolic rhetorics came amid the CBI crackdown on several persons in connection with the Saradha scam and the explosive statement of the suspended Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh accusing Ms Banerjee of being the largest beneficiary from the scam.
Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government of failing to deliver good governance, the BJP chief claimed that the countdown for a change in favour of the BJP in West Bengal had already begun.
‘You have to rein in your workers and associates who are involved in corruption and scam. If you fail to do that then please step down. The BJP will provide good governance in Bengal. The countdown has already started and the people of Bengal will show you the way out in the 2016 Assembly polls,’ he said.
Blaming the previous Left Government for ‘ruining Bengal’, Mr Shah said the people brought a change by bringing in Trinamool. But there has been no change and development which proved that both Trinamool and the Left were ‘cousins.’
The BJP President alleged that Bangladeshi infiltration in West Bengal had increased manifold during the Trinamool rule because of Ms Banerjee’s votebank politics that was devoid of any plan for development.
“Bangladeshi infiltration has gone up by five times. If one Bangladeshi infiltrator comes here, then he takes away the job of a Bengali youth and education of a youth. But Mamata is more interested in politics than development of Bengal. She has to stop infiltration and rising crimes in the state,” he said.
“Bengal’s scenario will not change so long as Didi is there. She is only concerned with politics and Bangladeshi infiltrators. Ever since Didi came to power, these immigrants have grown five times,” he alleged.
Mr Shah said the BJP should be able to win both the Chowringhee and Basirhat south seats, going for Assembly by-elections and it would raise voice in the state Assembly against injustice and crime.
