State level Mallakhamb Championship concludes; over 300 athletes took part
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Religious Trusts and Endowment, said that Mallakhamb is an ancient and traditional sport of our country and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given it the status of State Sport.
The Sports Minister mentioned that she has always been very fond of Mallakhamb and after she had watched this sport in Jhansi in 2005, she decided to organize its tournaments in Madhya Pradesh too.
The Sports Minister uttered these words while addressing the closing ceremony of the and 30th Mini-Junior An 31st Sub-Junior Boys & Girls State Level Mallakhamb Championship, which held at Saraswati Vidhyapeeth School, Fatehpur Road, Shivpuri, as the chief guest. On the occasion, she awarded shields and appreciation certificates to the athletes who came from various zones of Madhya Pradesh.
Pohri MLA Prahlad Bharti, Madhya Pradesh Mallakhamb Association State Secretary Kishori Sharan Shrivastav, Sports & Youth Welfare Director Dr. S.L. Thaosen, Shivpuri SP Sunil Kumar Pandey, Joint Directors Dr. Vinod Pradhan and B.S. Yadav, Gyan Singh of Saraswati Vidhyapeeth, District Sports Officer M.K. Dhaulpuriya and 300 players and their coaches from 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh were present on this occasion.
In her speech, the Sports Minister mentioned that Mallakhamb is a sport from the state of Maharashtra but Government of Madhya Pradesh has declared it the state sport.
Appreciating the performance of athletes of Shajapur and Ujjain, she said that they have brought name and fame to the state with their performance at the Republic Day parade in front of the Hon’ble President. She congratulated all the participants of the tournament and motivated them to make efforts to achieve the top place and new heights and the international level.
She informed that the Sports Department has been operating 17 academies for various sports. International level athletes of rowing, boxing, shooting, judo, karate, wrestling etc. are being prepared through these academies.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. S.L. Thaosen, the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, said it is a matter of joy that the championship has been organized in Shivpuri and all credit goes to the Sports Minister. He also expressed his gratitude towards all the associates. He congratulated all the athletes and gave them his best wishes.
Results of the championship
Under the 30th Mini-Junior And 31st Sub-Junior Boys & Girls State Level Mallakhamb Championship, District Ujjain Association earned the first spot, Sports Department Ujjain ended second and Sports Department Shajapur came third in girls’ under-12 category.
While in boys’ under-12 category, District Ujjain Association came first, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Shajapur came second and Sports Department Ujjain finished third.
In boys’ under-14 category, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Shajapur earned the first place, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Ujjain came second and District Ujjain Association came third. In girls’ under-14, District Ujjain Association, Sports Department Ujjain and Sports Department Shajapur earned first, second and third places respectively.
