For the first time inthe history of Maha Kumbh, the local authorities with the assistance of Tourism department has imparted training to around 2536 people who would interact with foreign visitors during the mela period.
The people, which included 180 railway coolies, 1328 taxi and auto drivers, 650 homeguards, 288 Government Railway Police(GRP) personnel and 90 railway catering employees, have been imparted basic knowledge of speaking English.
Divisional Commissioner Devesh Chaturvedi said here today that the state tourism department had trained these personnel on how to welcome the visitors and guide them to their destination. “These personnel have been asked to approach the visitors in a humble way and make their visit smooth,” he added.
As this time the duration of the Mela is 55 days, 10 more
days than 2001 Kumbh, the authorities are making all
arrangements so that guides and other personnel do not relax
after the main bathing of February 10 on Mauni Amavasaya.
On the direction of the Allahabad High Court, polythene,
except milk pouches, has been totally banned in the entire
Allahabad district.
The Mela authorities have also banned the use of plastic
tea cups and the sale of chips in the mela area.
