Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala BJP President Kummanam Rajasekharan has been appointed as new Governor of Mizoram.
“The President of India has been pleased to appoint Kummanam Rajasekharan to be the Governor of Mizoram vice Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, who is completing his tenure on May 28, 2018,” according to party sources quoting a communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan at 2035 hrs on Friday.
The decision of appointing Mr Rajasekharan as Mizoram Governor came in the midst of BJP facing a bypoll in Chengannur Assembly seat in Kerala where the election is scheduled to be held on May 28.
When the announcement came, Kummanam was in Chengannur in connection with the election campaign last night.
Talking to agencies, Kummanam Rajasekharan said “I came to know the news from the media only. No official communique is received till this time in this regard. I have not asked any post from the party. It is purely a party decision,” the Kerala BJP President said.
