Guwahati, After trouncing Caribeans in Sunday’s match, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has praised fellow batsman Rohit Sharma for his knock in the match.
Virat scored 140 runs in the first of the five ODI matches against the West Indies, while opener Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 152 and added a double century partnership of 246 runs for the second wicket, and won the match with nearly eight overs to spare and eight wickets in hand against a huge target of 323.
Indian captain said after the match, “I feel good and its a satisfying win. The West Indies batted very well and the scored more than 320, which is always difficult to chase. But I knew that we can turn the match with, if we have a big partnerships and when Rohit is at the other end, then it wouldn’t be a difficult task. Unlike, any others innings i asked Rohit to play his role”.
“When I got out, Ambati Rayudu took the edge. Me and Rohit have played double-century partnership for the sixth time. A few years left for me and I want to make use of it with full fun. Playing for the country is always a matter of pride and you cannot take any match lightly. You are playing for India and not everyone gets this chance. That is why you should respect it’, he added.
While commenting on guest team performance Virat said, “West Indies batted well in this match and when teams like them make good scores, nothing is easy for the opposition team to do. The West Indies challenged us with their total. I can’t blame bowlers as this was a batting wicket and we chased the total in just 42 overs. ”
The second ODI of the five-match series between India and the West Indies will be played on October 24 at Visakhapatnam.
