Keen to talk to everyone in Kashmir : Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who will be on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir beginning tomorrow, today said he is keen to meet “everyone” in the militancy-hit state.

“I personally want that we talk to everyone. So whoever comes to meet me, I will talk to them,” Mr Singh told reporters here. Mr Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir comes amid indications that there are a few fresh and innovative ideas up his sleeves vis-a-vis to work towards resolution of Kashmir problem.

The Home Minister said he is keen to work for a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue. According to sources, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will make a presentation before the Minister and the Central team on the current situation especially in the Valley. The issue of re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits who had let the Valley in the 1990s during the peak of militancy is likely to figure prominently.

Notably, the NIA has arrested a few separatist leaders and also questioned two off-springs of top Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs said there has been a considerable improvement in the Valley’s security scenario as the Army and CRPF, have intensified major offensive against top militants and their hideouts.

In 2016, the Union Home Minister had led an all-party delegation to Jammu and Kashmir. Sources further said that during his visit to the state, where he will be accompanied by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior officers of Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr Singh will meet Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. He will also review the Prime Minister’s Development Package. During his visit, Mr Singh will meet various delegations at Srinagar, Leh and Jammu. He will also interact with Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and BSF jawans.
