New Delhi, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi Capitals a solid start against Chennai Super Kings but failed to post a big score as they were restricted at 147/6 in the VIVO IPL tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla here on Tuesday.
Prithvi Shaw played some good shots and scored 24 runs off 16 balls, and later was dismissed Deepak Chahar. He failed to clear the short ball as Shane Watson took an easy catch at mid-wicket.
Though wickets were falling on the other end, but Dhawan maintained his pace and scored his 33rd half century. He scored 51 runs off 47 balls.
Dhawan later joined by his skipper Shreyas Iyer (18 off 20 balls), but he too couldn’t stay at the crease for a long time. He was dismissed by Tahir strikes leaving Delhi at 79/2.
Delhi could have scored more but Dwayne Bravo ended their hope of scoring big total in the 18th over, when he dismissed Dhawan.
Rishabh Pant, who smashed an unbeaten 78 off 27 balls against Mumbai Indians, was departed for 25 runs off 13 balls. Shardul Thakur caught him at deep mid-wicket on Bravo’s ball.Other batsmen Colin Ingram, Keemo Paul and Axar Patel were dismissed on single digit score. Rahul Tewatia scored 11 off Nine balls.
Dwayne Bravo shined as he took three wickets and spent 33 runs, while Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir took one wicket each.
