Jakarta, The Indian men’s Archery team won silver in the final compound event after South Korea defeated them at the 18th Asian Games held here won Tuesday.
The Indian men’s team comprising Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan settled for the silver medal after South Korea defeated them.
The scores were tied on 229 each after the 24 shots as well in the shoot-off, after which Korea bagged Gold because they managed to hit bulls-eye in the final.
After 18 shots, India still took a lead in the game against South Korea and finished at 172-170. While after two ends, India were leading against South korea 114-113.
It was all down to Rajat after Korea shoot a 10 and a 9. And Rajat did well to put India level at 19-19. Korea then score another 10. The Arjuna awardee Rajat takes a 10. and levelled the scores at 29-29.
India did well in the fourth set to end it with a lead of two points at 229-227. The scores are revised and the Koreans are now tie at 229-229. They also took two-point advantage in the third set and settled at 172-170 lead over South Korea.
Defending champions India give a powerful performance in the first set and took a lead against Korea 60-56.
Earlier, Indian Women’s Compound Archery team settled for silver medal. They lost to World champions South Korea 228-231. India needed three 10s in the final shots but failed and settled for the second prize.
It was a tight battle between India and South Korea. The Koreans, who are normally pulling out the 10s, but later misfired giving India chance to level the points in the final few shots. India needed three top shots to level scores.
The Indian team comprising Muskan Kirar, Madhumita Kumari and Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated Taiwan’s Liju Chen, Yihsuan Chen and Mingching Lin 225-222.
Despite being at the receiving end in the first two sets at 55-58 and 55-57, the Indians made a brilliant comeback in the last two sets to win 57-55, 58-52.
After Round three, Jyothi and Madhumita had brought India right back into the battle against South Korea in this battle for the Gold medal. The scores tied at 173-173.The women’s team was already assured of a medal in the game.
