India 35/3 at stumps on Day 4

Need another 252 runs for victory

Chasing a target of 287 runs, India were 35/3 at stumps on day 4 of the ongoing second Test at the SuperSport Park here on Tuesday.

Despite a cautious start, the visitors lost the first wicket with just 11 runs on board as Kagiso Rabada clean bowled opener Murli Vijay (9). With just another five runs added on India’s scorecard, pacer Lungi Ngidi striked to dismiss other opener KL Rahul (4).
India were in deep trouble again as Ngidi caught skipper Virat Kohli (5) in fron of the wickets, with India reeling at 26/3.

Parthiv Patel and Cheteshwar Pujara were unbeaten on 5 and 11 when stumps were drawn for the day.India now need another 252 runs on the final day for victory with seven wickets in hand.

Earlier in the day, South Africa resumed from their overnight score of 90/2.
India seamer Mohammed Shami scalped three crucial wickets in the morning session but the hosts extended their lead to 201 runs at lunch on Tuesday. South Africa went to interval on 173 for five, with captain Faf du Plessis (12 not out) and Vernon Philander (three not out) at the crease.

In the afternoon session, pacer Ishant Sharma bagged couple of wickets to keep India in hunt for victory as the hosts crawled to 230 for seven at tea as they scored just 57 runs in 27 overs, extending their lead to 258 runs.

The post tea-session saw India bowling out South Africa for 258 in their second innings to set themselves a 287-run victory target. AB de Villiers (80) and captain Faf du Plessis (48) were the top contributors for the hosts in their second innings.

For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowler, clinching 4 wickets for 49 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bagged three wickets for 70 runs while Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin took two and one wicket each.
