4 DPS students, driver killed in bus-truck collision in Indore

Agencies, Indore Four children of Delhi Public School (DPS) and a driver were killed and more than 10 other people injured after a school bus collided with a truck on Bichauli-Mardana Bypass in Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital this evening, police said. The injured have been admitted to Bombay Hospital and MY Hospital. The incident happened when the Delhi Public School bus number 27 was on its way to drop kids to their homes. The accident was reported at Birchauli Mardana area where the bus collided head-on with a truck. “The incident took place at around 16:30 hrs. The front portion of the bus was crushed due to the impact. Prima facie, the mishap resulted due to the failure of steering wheel of the bus,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (Indore) Harinarayanchari Mishra told here. Senior police officials and district authorities rushed to the spot. Expressing grief over the DPS school tragedy, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, took to his Twitter handle and said that he is saddened by the accident. The families of the deceased should not feel that they are alone. “I along with whole Madhya Pradesh stands with the families of the killed students,” MP CM said. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhoopendra Singh has expressed grief over the incident while directing Indore DIG and Indore RTO to investigate the matter and submit a report within 24 hours. Talking to the media, Minister for School Education Deepak Joshi said the government will fix responsibility on schools regarding the safety of students.“The government had issued guidelines for schools after a school bus accident in Bhopal. We will fix responsibility on schools to ensure the safety of children,” Joshi said.
