Bhopal, Even as various political parties are girding up their loins for the general election, Congress President Rahul Gandhi reiterated on Friday that his party would guarantee income for every indigent citizen and that would be a first-time measure in the world.
“Erstwhile Congress dispensations took historic steps such as the Green Revolution, the White Revolution and the Right to Food. Unlike the Centre’s Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, the Congress does not turn a Nelson’s eye to the destitute and the tiller,” the visiting politician averred while addressing the Congress’ Aabhaar Sammelan (Convention for Expressing Gratitude) at the Madhya Pradesh capital’s Jamboree Ground.
Pouring vitriol on Premier Narendra Modi, Mr Gandhi said that the former extended assistance of a whopping Rs 3.5 lakh crore to tycoons such as Mr Anil Ambani but was now speaking of a scheme for cultivators – as polls are round the corner – that works out to a meagre Rs 17 daily per targeted beneficiary.
“The populace is the true master and we are all servants. Therefore the doors of the Chief Minister and ministers shall ever be open for the masses,” he added.
