Concerned over price rise situation and looming threat of weak monsoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a top level meeting to chalk out a strategy to deal with the increasing inflation and looming threat of weak monsoon.
Sources said Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Water and Irrigation Minister Uma Bharti, Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan were among those who attended the meeting.
Deliberations in the meeting mainly veered around combating inflation and plans to cope up with the situation in case of weak monsoon as predicted by weatherman.
The Cabinet meeting is also likely to be held this evening . Amid poor monsoon prospects, deteriorating situation in Iraq has further fuelled speculations that increasing oil prices would have adverse ripple effect on prices.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had yesterday convened a high-level meeting to discuss issues related to inflation and price rise of essential commodities and announced some measures to control the situation.
