Cardiff, Alex Hales smashed an unbeaten fifty to help England beat India by five wickets in the second T20I here on friday to level the series 1-1.
It was David Willey with a pull shot and through square leg for four as England chase down 149 to win by five wickets.
Chasing a target of 149 to win England lost early wicket of Roy in the very 3rd over after being bowled out in Umesh Yadav’s spell.Roy’s 15 came off in 12 balls with 2 fours and a six.
Then in the 5th over last ball it was tun of Buttler to go back to the pavillion after being caught off by Virat Kohli in Umesh Yadav’s bowl. Buttler scored 14 off 12 balls hitting 3 fours.
Chahal was another to take wicket of Root in the 7th over through his googly which Root completely missed the shot the bowl turned in and dislodged his off stump. Root scored 9 off 10 balls.
After Root’s departure it was Hardik Pandya who took wicket of Morgan in the 14th over after Dhawan took a stunning catch.Morgan’s 17 came off in 19 balls with 2 fours.
In the first bowl of the 18th over, Bhuvneshwar First ball of the 18th over and Bhuvneshwar takes wicket of Bairstow caught at fine leg. It’s a half-hearted pull shot from Bairstow which is straight to Kuldeep Yadav.
England, who needed 12 runs from the final over it was Alex Hales launches the first ball of the final over for a six in Bhuvneshwar’ spell.
Now England just need 6 from 5 balls. That is a straight delivery and Hales has hit it over the bowler’s head for another six.Finally in the last ball of the over David Willey hits four and takes his team towards victory levelling the series 1-1.
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to field putting India to bat.Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not provide the momentum as India would have expected, both the openers scored 5 and 10 runs losing their wickets in quick succession.
Rohit was caught by Buttler in Ball’s spell in the 2nd over at score of 5 off 9 balls hitting just one four while Dhawan could not stick around wicket for long before being run out in the 5th over. Dhawan’s 10 came off 12 balls with one four.
After Dhawan’s departure KL Rahul who scored a brilliant century in the last match failed to repeat the same and could only contribute a mere 6 runs off 8 balls was bowled by Plunkett in the 5th over.
For the 4th wicket partnership Raina 27 (20) and Kohli 29 (25) added 57 runs.Suresh Raina too chipped in some useful runs 27 off 20 with 2 fours and a six, but departed in the 13th over after being stumped by Buttler in Rashid’s spell.
However, skipper Virat Kohli came to rescue the team and added a valuable 47 off 38 balls hitting one four and 2 sixes before being bowled being caught off by Root in Willey’s spell in the 18th over.
Then came Dhoni 13 (16) and Kohli 18 (13) put up 32 runs for their 5th wicket partnership.Dhoni 19 (18) and Hardik Pandya 12 (10) further added 37 runs for their 6th wicket partnersip.
However, it was MS Dhoni’s quickfire 32 off 24 with 5 fours and Hardik Pandya’s 12 off 10 with one six the scoreboard kept ticking till the last over.
Dhoni and Pandya added 22 crucial runs in the final over off the Indian innings.For England Willey, Ball, Plunkett and Rashid took one wicket each.
