GMC to host 66th annual conference APCON-2017

Gandhi Medical College, Department of Pathology is esteemed to host the 66th Annual conference APCON-2017 under the aegis of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists and also the annual conference of International Academy of Pathology – Indian Division from 6th December 2017 to 10th December in the City.

The grand event is being organised under the auspices of Organising secretary Professor and Head of Department Pathology Dr.Reeni Malik, and the chairmanship of Dean Gandhi Medical CollegeDr. M C Songra.

The organising committee is privileged to act upon this conspicuous responsibility after more than 40 years, as the college hosted the same conference before in the year 1972 under the Guidance of Respected Professor Dr. P. L. Tandon which till today is a matter of pride in the Pathology fraternity of the nation.

The prestigious colossal event is comprised ofdifferent forms of scientific sessions, seminars, presentations, symposia and workshops to be conducted by numerous eminent National and InternationalPathologists.

Several reputed Pathology faculties from different prestigious national and international Universities are providing their deliberations for the grand academic feast, like Dr Anais Malpica from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Houston, Texas USA, Dr. Sunil Jaiman (Assistant Professor, Wayne State University School Of Medicine Hutzel Women’s Hospital, Perinatology Research Branch (NICHD/NIH), Michigan, USA), Dr.Tejinder Singh (Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi),Dr. Anita Borges (Mumbai),Dr.Nalini Bansal Gupta (SRL, Fortis Okhla, New Delhi).

Last held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, this year conference’s major attraction will be ‘Hands on workshop’ sessions by which the conference will plunge into on 6th December comprising the Pre-conference events.

The first workshop will be on “Approach to Diagnosis of Acute Leukemias” by one of the renowned haematologist Dr.Tejinder Singh, the workshop will be an elaborate take on the adversities of diagnosing acute leukemias (Blood cancers) followed by a well equipped microscopy session for the better understanding of the menacing disease.

Another workshop titled “Immunohistochemistry- Technique and Interpretation” by Dr.RajniParmar, demonstrating the procedural peculiarities in Immunohistochemistry with a laboratory based staining procedure session to be focussed on Breast, Lymph nodes, soft tissue and round cell tumours, which will help the pathologists to have a better vision for the detection of Breast and other types of Cancers.

Another workshop on “Accessory cells: Hematolymphoid neoplasms” by Dr. Anita Borges and Dr.SumeetGujral will demonstrate the intricate features of different atypical blood related cancers.

Apart from the workshop sessions two Continuing Medical Education sessions (CME) are also scheduled on the first day of the event, “Role of IHC in resolving diagnostic dilemma in Head and neck tumors” by Shubhda Kane (Mumbai) and “Simplified approach for examination of Peripheral Smear” by Dr. Rahul Bhargava.

The second day of the event will mark the Annual conference 2017 of the International academy of Pathologists- Indian Division to begin with an auspicious guest lecture by invited foreign guest speaker Dr. Anais Malpica from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Houston, Texas USA on the topic “Mesenchymal tumours of the Uterus, what you want to know” followed by Slide Seminars on “Breast Core Biopsy” by Dr.Amanjit Bal and “Pathology of the lower female genital tract- A review of selected topics” by Dr. Anais Malpica.

A symposium on “Pathology of Sudden Death” by Dr. Pradeep Vaideeshwar (Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai) will conclude the day.
