Staff Reporter, Bhopal

Caught in the eye of a storm following reports of her callous behaviour in the wake of gang-rape of a student in the Madhya Pradesh capital, the state government on Saturday removed Superintendent of Police (Rail) Anita Malviya.

According to the orders issued here, Malvia has been shifted as Assistant Inspector General of Police at the Headquarters. She has been replaced by AIG (Special Armed Forces) Ruchi Vardhan.

Besides, IG (Bhopal Range) Yogesh Chaudhary was also transferred as IG (Law, Order and Security). A student was gangraped by four men for approximately three hours while she was returning from a coaching class on October 31.

The government has so far taken action against eight cops in this case. Acting tough the government had earlier removed in-charges of three police stations and a CSP. Later two sub-inspectors were also removed.

On Sunday Bhopal range IG Yogesh Chaudhary was also removed. Removal of Rail (SP) Anita Malviya was on the cards. In a video that went viral on social media, Ms Malviya is seen commenting to media that the issue has caused a “headache”.

She spoke of four persons being taken into custody. Later, a youth was found to be innocent and released. 1995 batch IPS officer Jaideep Prasad has been made the new IG of Bhopal. The regime also issued transfer and posting orders to seven other Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.

Victim praises Habibganj TI

Gang-rape victim said she had to face misbehaviour at MP Nagar and GRP police stations. However Habibganj TI Ravindra Yadav not only listened to her whole story but also directed the staff to lodge the FIR.

Central Chronicle had published that TI Ravindra Yadav was going to lodge FIR, but did not lodge after receiving phone call from an officer.

Hang perpetrators publicly

Meanwhile, the gang-rape victim has demanded that the perpetrators be hanged publically. “Such people (culprits) should not be left alive. Police should hand out such a punishment that it does not happen with anyone ever again. In fact, they should be hanged on the streets,” the victim said reporters.

Her rage was also directed towards the police, who initially refused to lodge her complaint. “The most disgusting thing was police’s behavior; we were going from one police station to another, we visited at least three to four stations,” she said, adding that the Government Railway Police (GRP) and MP Nagar Police were the most disrespectful towards her.

The victim further informed that her parents caught hold of the accused after she helped in identifying the culprits. ‘’We took the accused to the police station, he confessed to the crime and still the police did not lodge a complaint,” she added.

She said it took a whole day for the family to get their complaint heard in different police stations, until the Habibganj Police showed some cooperation and support.
