Kozhikode, Four persons, including three children, were killed and at least nine others were missing in a landslide triggered by incessant rain at Karinchola near Thamarassery in this district of Kerala during the last 24 hours.
Official Sources said the deceased were identified as Abdul Rehman, Dilna (7), daughter of Vettiyozhijathottam Salim, his son Mohammed Shahbas (4) and their neighbour Jassim (7), son of Jaffar.
Besides, many houses were washed away and standing crops were destroyed in the heavy rain lashing the region since the last many days.
Search operations were on to rescue the people reportedly missing, the sources said.Landslides were reported from Kakkayam, Mankayam, Pullooranpara, Eegappara and Kattipaara in this district.
Kozhikode-Kollegal highway was blocked as a fallen tree disrupted vehicular traffic. The traffic was diverted from Wayanad via Kuttiyadi ghat road.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the Chief Secretary, District Collectors, Police and fire services to coordinate rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.A contingent of Disaster Management team would be sent to the devastated district, he said.
Heavy rain related losses were also reported from neighbouring Kannur, Wayanad and Malappuram districts.
