Food Security

The upcoming Food Security Bill is different from such measures taken in the past during the elections. In most of the states of the ruling party announced the subsidies food on cheap rates.

The Madhya Pradesh under a Chief Minister scheme cheap grains and being offered. But the proposed bill it will be a statutory right of people and enforceable. In the same manner some time back the Right To Information, Right to Education and Service Guarantee Act were enacted. It will cover 67 per cent population of the country. They will be provided 7 kilogramme of foodgrains – at the rate of wheat Rs.2, Rice Rs.3, and coarse grains like Milo, Bajra at Rupee one per kilo. The only apprehension is that it will be distributed through the ongoing Public Distribution System which is considered as most inefficient and most corrupt network.

The Supreme Court once observed in disgust that it should be abolished. Now it will be based on “Aadhar Card system”. This work of Aadhar card is being carried out by the Postal Department. Recently in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi the postmen threw it in dust bin and these cards of vital importance have not reached to public. Under such an apathy no one can expect distribution of food grains under the Food Security direct payment of cash subsidies will reach the public. The schemes may be of lofty ideal but these are not implemented properly.

After a long run of MNREGA it is coming into the notice that instead of generating rural employment actually it generated massive corruption and swindling of crores of rupees. Instead of launching massive welfare schemes government ensure and frame up implementation network with fool proof system which can not be tempered. The very basis of these welfare schemes the ‘Aadhar’ card system must be set right first.
