Farmers worst sufferers under UPA rule: Modi

Agencies, Koppal
BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today came down heavily on the UPA government alleging that it has failed to come to the rescue of farmers who remained in distress during its rule and let them suffer a ‘painful decade’ under the Congress-led government.

Speaking at an election rally in the district coming under back ward Hyderabad-Karnataka region, Mr Modi said the people had decided to dump the UPA government as it had failed to deliver and took the country backward.

‘This government is anti-development. Its schemes meant to provide jobs to the poor like MGNREGS were used as a ‘channel’ to fill the pockets of Congress leaders and their cronies,’ he alleged.

Giving example, Mr Modi said though 73,000 poor families had applied for the job scheme in Koppal district, only 4000 got jobs for 100 days last year.

‘This government has left poor farmers in such a bad statethat the country witnessed highest number of farmer suicides. It does not provide necessary inputs to farmers. They bring the blood after the farmer has died,’ he said in reference to Congress claim in Karnataka that it had waived loans of 10 lakh farmers. Mr Modi said the UPA government had become an unwanted baggage to the nation and it need to be ousted.
“We had never seen such a corrupt government in last 15 Lok Sabha elections. All this ‘pungi’ government wants to do is just to eat and say or do nothing,’ Mr Modi lamented.

He came heavily against AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi claiming the successes of RTI act, but said it had nothing to offer to the poor sections of the society.    ‘I challenge him, using the RTI let Mr Gandhi bring back the black money stashed in the foreign banks. Bring back the money eaten by leaders in the 2G scam.

‘For 10 long years, the UPA government did not want to bring back the black money as the money secretly kept in foreign banks belongs to Congress leaders,’ he alleged.    The BJP leader said the time has come for installation of BJP government at the Centre as per the people’s wish.

‘For this to happen we want you to elect 300 ‘lotus’ (300 BJP seats in coming Lok Sabha). Give me the 300 kamal sarkar, elect all BJP candidates in Karnataka, I will fulfill all your dreams,’ he said.
