Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said a platform like Facebook could be used for governance and better interaction between the people and the governments and also bring more tourists to India.
In a meeting with Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg who called on the Prime Minister here, he said the government intended to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary year with a special focus on cleanliness and Facebook could assist the government in this endeavour. Ms Sandberg described India a ‘’very important country’’ for Facebook, considering the high number of active Facebook users here.
Describing the meeting with Ms Sandberg as ‘’very fruitful’’, the Prime Minister said being an avid user of social media himself, he had talked about ways through which a platform such as Facebook could be used for governance and better interaction between the people and governments.
He said he had also talked about how Facebook could be used to bring more tourists to India.
‘’We intend to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary year with a special focus on cleanliness and I spoke to Ms Sandberg on how Facebook can assist us in this endeavour,’’ the Prime Minister added.
