The digging started after saint Swami Shobhan Sarkar had insisted the authorities that a treasure of 1000 tonnes of gold was buried here. A lot of interest was generated after the Swami had claimed he had dreamt of having treasure beneath 19th century fort of Rao Rambax Singh, about 40 km from the district headquarters of Unnao district and about 55 km from the state capital of Lucknow.
Taking cue from this, the district administration collaborated with the GSI and ASI to conduct the excavation. District Magistrate Vijay Karan Anand told UNI that the digging had started and it would take some time to get the results. Earlier in the small hours today, Shobhan Sarkar conducted a puja early this morning inside the fort and earmarked the area from where the treasure would be unearthed. So far a secluded and ignored village of Daundiya Kheda is abuzz with activities with national and international media reaching there and it is fair-like atmosphere there.
