The Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr O.P. Rawat has said that next general elections to Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Misoram will be held with E.V.M and the Commission is not reverting to previous system of ballot papers. Mr Rawat said element of malpractice was more in ballot papers. The E.V.M. are safe. The commission is fixing V.V. Pat to rule out any malfunctioning in the E.V.M.
The 17 political parties have decided to just forward a plea before the Commission to discard the E.V.M system and revert back to ballet papers.
This issue was first raised by the Bhartiya Janata Party stalwart Mr L.K. Advani in the Lok Sabha and emphasised his point that many nations have discarded the election vote casting machines and gone back to ballot papers.
Bharatiya Janata Party is silent this issue. The job and responsibilities of the Election Commission of India is conduct the election as free and fair. But the parties contest it. If majorities of parties demand revert back to ballot papers it should be done.
The Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi should convene an all party meeting with participation of Election Commission also to decide this issue finally. These days Mr Advani is maintaining total silence but he should speak on it as its originator.
