Education meaningless without moral values: Governor

Bhopal : Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav has said that youths can be developed into good citizens only by imparting them education with values of life and social concerns. He was addressing Fifth IES National Teachers’ Excellence Awards Ceremony 2011 organised by IES College of Technology at Samanvay Bhavan here today. He said that it is the responsibility of teachers to impart knowledge of Indian traditions, social values, principles and morality to students apart from formal education. Shri Yadav said that highest of education is meaningless for country and society without high standards of character. The Governor said that society and nation has to bear the brunt of degradation of moral and social values and country’s traditions.
Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav honoured Prof. Dr. Avinash Agrawal of I.I.T. Kanpur with Dr. C.V. Raman Young Teachers’ Excellence Award for engineering and technical education. He bestowed Prof. Ravi Shankar of I.I.T. New Delhi with Dr. Hari Singh Gour Award for management education, Vice-Chancellor of K.L.E. University, Belgam Dr. Chandrakant Kokte with Dr. R.K. Upadhyaya Award for pharmacy science, Dr. D.P. Yadav of I.C.T. University Mumbai with Dr. C.V. Raman Award for Excellence in Engineering and Technology and Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh of I.I.S.E.R. Bhopal with Dr. J.C. Bose Award for Outstanding Work in Engineering and Technology Education.

Speaking on the occasion, expert of law education and founder of Bhopal’s Judicial Academy Prof. M.P. Madhav Menon said that teaching is most ideal profession in the world. I will like to become a teacher in the next incarnation also since teacher commands maximum respect in the Indian culture after parents. Teachers and education decide the future of society and its leadership. Every person should be education for enabling him to get better opportunities and an honourable place in society. Shri Madhav Menon said that degradation in every sphere of life is being witnessed these days due to decline in truth and moral values in society. The young generation should not confine them only to bookish knowledge, but should also imbibe values of life and ideals of traditions.

At the function, Chairman of IES Group Shri B.S. Yadav greeted the Governor with a shawl and coconut while the Governor honoured Prof. M.P. Menon by presenting him a shawl and coconut. Earlier, Shri B.S. Yadav delivered the welcome address while institution’s Group Director Prof. Suneeta Singh proposed a vote of thanks.
