Islamabad, Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif asserted that the whole nation has been converted into a “prison” and asked countrymen to vote for his party.
“Spread my message across houses, streets, villages. Come out and defeat those who insult your votes in a way that they will never raise their heads again,” said Mr Sharif in an audio message recorded at an undisclosed place and at an unknown time.
The PML-N chief was sentenced to prison for 2016 Panama Papers leaks which revealed that Mr Sharif owned the apartments through off-shore companies. His daughter Ms Maryam was convicted for concealing ownership of the apartments. They both had denied the charges.
Mr Sharif and Maryam were arrested minutes after landing in Pakistan from London on Friday and sent to Adiala jail. His wife Kulsoom is critically ill and undergoing cancer treatment in UK capital.
According to a report published in Dawn, former Prime Minister said that the said the voters need to end the game that had been going on for the past 70 years, turning Pakistan into a “circus”.
But “they don’t know that jails and prisons cannot break my relation with you. Neither any dictator has succeeded in doing so in the past nor those who are presently pulling the strings can do it,” he said in the two-minute audio message.
The PML-N supreme leader alleged that he and Ms Maryam had been imprisoned to keep them away from the masses.
Mr Sharif has been given ‘better class’, while Ms Maryam has been imprisoned in a ‘general barrack’ after she refused to get ‘better class’ facilities.
