Digvijay objects to ‘media trial’

Delhi gang rape

Agencies, Lucknow
Digvijay singhCongress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today blamed the media for holding a ‘trial’ in the Delhi gangrape case and held Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and AAP convenor Arvind Kerjiwal responsible of triggering violence during the protests on India Gate in the capital.

Addressing a Congress delegates conference here, Mr Singh, who is also the In-charge of Uttar Pradesh, asked how could the media held a trial in the rape case and was also doing investigation into the death of a police constable claiming that he was not killed in violence.

“There is a law in the country and the government has constituted a judicial commission to probe the matter, but media demanding capital punishment is unfortunate,” he said.
Condemning the heinous crime, Mr Singh alleged that the peaceful protests of the youth at India Gate only turned violent after Ramdev and Mr Kejriwal joined the agitation.

“This issue should also be probed,” he added.
Reacting sharply on the statement of UP Minister Mohammad Azam Khan criticising the UPA government over the rape cases, he asked the UP Minister to first remove the rape accused Ministers and MLAs from the state ruling party before making comment on the Central government.
