Bengaluru, Hard hitting left handed opener Shikhar Dhawan joined a select band of players to score a century before lunch on the opening day of a test match when he made a brilliant 107 against Afghanistan in the historic one-off test match that began here on Thursday.
He struck an 87-ball century before being out just after lunch off the bowling of Yamin Ahmadzai.
The Delhi batsman joined the list of five others which included legendary Don Bradman.The others who achieved the feat were Victor Trumper versus England in Manchester during 1902, Charly Macartney versus England at Leeds in 1921, Don Bradman versus England in Leeds in 1930, Majid Khan against New Zealand in Karachi in 1976 and David Warner against Pakistan at SCG in 2017. Barring Majid Khan of Pakistan, all others are Australians.
Incidentally Hardik Pandya had scored a century before lunch against Sri Lanka hitting 108 at Pallekele in 2017.
