Development of Chhattisgarh can be example for the entire nation : Prez

Raipur,  Congratulating the people of Chhattisgarh on its 17th anniversary of formation of the state, President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said that development of Chhattisgarh can be an example for the entire nation.

“The state under the leadership of Chief Minister Raman Singh has done commendable work for the welfare of the adivasis, Dalits, farmers, women, youths, underprivileged and other sections of the society.

I Congratulate the Chhattisgarh administration and the people for this,” the President said, while addressing the valedictory celebration of the five-day Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav at Naya Raipur this evening.

The President said after Chhattisgarh became a separate state, it had taken several welfare measures and development works in different spheres which had been praised throughout the country and from which other states had learnt a lot.

Mr Kovind also praised the state for being first in the country to enact Food and Nutrition Security Act and to provide free salt, free education for girls, subsidised ration to 60 lakh families, health insurance cover for 56 lakh families through smart card and agricultural credit to farmers at zero per cent interest .

The President said that the new capital city Raipur is being developed as the first integrated smart eco-friendly city which had set example for others. Mr Kovind, who paid his first visit to the state after assuming office as President in July, said that Chhattisgarh has immense potential for development.

The dense forests cover, rivers and minerals are priceless natural resources for development of Chhattisgarh However, its biggest assets are the honest and friendly people, he added.

Remembering the long agitation launched by the people of the region for a separate state of Chhattisgarh, Mr Kovind said he also stood in support of the demand in the House as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

The President, who paid tributes to martyrs at Saheed Smarak at the Chhattisgarh Armed Force camp at Mana on his arrival here this afternoon, said he was told by officials that more than 1100 police and para-military personnel were martyred in the state while fighting against insurgency in violence-hit districts.’

I pay my tributes to all those jawans who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Chhattisgarh’s pride and to maintain peace in the state.’

On the second day of his tour, the President is scheduled to lay foundation stone for a Rs.3 crore community hall at Giroudpuri Dham, the birthplace of Satnami spiritual leader Guru Ghasidas, and address a gathering before leaving for Delhi at 1440 hrs.
