Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The meeting of the selection committee can be held any time to fill the vacant posts of the information commissioner, lying vacant in the State Information Commission. The government has rejected the demand of Leader of the Opposition, Ajay Singh, in which he had asked to shortlist the candidates and then listed.
In this matter the opinion was taken from the Law Department.Opinion came in favor of the General Administration Department (GAD). After this, the time has been sought from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the meeting. It is being told that appointment will be given before the implementation of the Code of Conduct for assembly elections.
According to sources, the leader of the opposition asked the government to make a panel after short listing the candidates, by referring the case of Namid Sharma name. In this regard, the meeting of the proposed selection committee of 10th September was canceled.
The General Administration Department had sought the opinion of the Law Department, because there is no such provision in the right to information law. The department argued that job of short listing is to be done by selection committee and not by the department. The role of the department is to list the applications and to put it in front of the committee.
Officials of the ministry said that after the trial, Law Department told that a review petition was filed in the case of named Sharma, in which case ended. After this, it is not necessary that the paternal department will short list and put in front of the panel committee.
After getting the opinion, the department has conveyed the opinion of the Law Department through letter to Leader of the Opposition. Simultaneously, the time has been sought from Chief Minister’s Secretariat to convene a meeting of the Selection Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee is the Chief Minister and Public Relations Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra and Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh are the members of this committee.
Worry of code of conduct
Sources say that the government is also concerned about the implementation of code of conduct for assembly elections. In view of this, the meeting of the committee is called early and it is ready to finalize the selection. It is being told that the appointment order will be issued only after one or two days of the meeting.
Three posts of Information Commissioner are vacant in the Information Commission. For this, the division has received 187 applications. These include retired judges, IAS, IPS, IFS officers as well as the applications of media personnel also.
