A quick fire 89 run partnership for the second wicket between ‘Mr Cricket’ Michel Hussey and Suresh Raina helped Chennai Super Kings kick off their campaign in the Champions League T20 on a winning note giving M S Dhoni a perfect start in his home ground. CSK defeated Titans by four wickets.
However, while chasing a stiff target of 186 Chennai Super Kings innings began on disastrous note with Van der Marwe getting opener Murli Vijay for a first ball duck in the very first overs of the innings with the scoreboard reading 6 for the loss of one wicket.
Then came Suresh Raina who alongwith Michel Hussey started plundering the Titans bowling. Their attack was so brutal that CSK reached 50 in just 4 overs. Morne Morkel ended up giving 24 runs in the fourth overs of the innings which included four boundaries and a six.
At the end of the mandatory powerplay of the first six overs CSK raced away to 73 for the loss of just one wicket.
Davids who brought himself on in the 7th over of the innings went for 13 runs which also included six extras.
The duo shared a 89 run partnershipin just 44 balls for the second wicket as Raina was caught by Morne Morkel in the bowling of David Wiese after having scored a quick fire 47 of 28 balls. His innings consisted of five boundaries and two big sixes.
It was due to this partnership CSK went past 100 at the end of the nine overs.With Hussey hitting a massive six of Davids with the ball reaching almost to the second tier of the stadium.
