Virtually launching the election campaign in Kerala, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said the Congress party is committed to formation of a separate ministry for fisheries, minimum gaurateed wages for all and writing off agriculural loans of farmers who are in distress.
Addressing the National Fishermen Parliament in the coastal area of Thriprayar, near here, he said his promises are not fake and they would be implemented without any failure, if Congress will come to power after the next Lok Sabha elections
Mr Rahul Gandhi said the fishermen community has sacrified their lives for the country, whether it is cyclone or flood, but the Modi government have done nothing for their welfare.
“There should be someone in Delhi to listen to your voice and grievances. You can directly address the ministry and action would be taken immediately, he said to the applause of more than 3,000 fishermen. Assuring the fishermen that he would fulfil the promise if the Congress wins, the Congress chief said, adding that I only say it because I have decided to do it.
He also promised to bring in legislation for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies. On a demand from the fishermen, he said one representative from the community will be nominated to the Parliament.
Mr. Gandhi wondered who was sponsoring the advertisement of Mr. Modi on television and in newspapers. “Around 15 big industrialists are marketing Mr. Modi and the Prime Minister is in turn protecting their interests,” he alleged.
