Congress organizes candle march, rallies on note ban anniversary

Staff Reporter, Bhopal

On a call given by MP Congress Committee, Black Day was observed at all district headquarters in the state on Wednesday upon completion of one year of note ban. Black Day was observed to oppose the anti-people policies of the Modi government of centre.

The party organized demonstrations with black flags, black balloons and black ribbons at every district headquarters and all 488 block levels. In the state capital, the state level protest was held at Roshanpura Square.

Prominent party leaders who were present on the occasion included All India Congress Committee Secretary in-charge for state Zuber Khan, state Congress president Arun Yadav and other office bearers of the state besides other senior leaders, Women Congress, Sewa Dal, Youth Congress, NSUI officer bearers and workers, farmers, traders and people in large number.

Zuber Khan said note ban affected farmers, the under-privileged, women and medium and small enterprises neatly closed down. He said that demonetisation was a cold-calculated move by the Prime Minister and the nation has been suffering since then. Demonetisation is a Modi generated calamity, he said.

Khan further said the prime minister should be held responsible for the death of 150 persons who died in the queues of banks. The nation’s GDP crashed from 9.2 to 5.7 causing a loss of over Rs three lakh crores to the country.

Former union minister Suresh Pachouri said while 99% of demonetised notes have returned, the government has been unable to give the amount of black money that has been collected in a year.

He said our protest is against the dictatorial manner by which Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the demonetisation announcement, giving a major blow to the economy and the country went into a depression.

State president Arun Yadav said demonetisation was the biggest scam of the century. On the one hand it shattered the economy of the country and on the other the common man is not able to recover from its ill effects.

He said demonetisation is a historic blunder which is nothing but fraud in the name of curbing black money. What the demonetisation has achieved is 200 basis point fall in GDP.

Small businesses have been hit and the farmers are also suffering, Yadav added. Later the party took out a candle march. Party workers had tied black bands on their arms while marching from Roshnapura to Top n Town.

The protestors raised anti-Modi and anti BJP slogans. Party leaders said the note-ban neither helped in curtailing corruption nor in curbing terrorism or Naxalism. Likewise, no large amount of counterfeit currency was seized, nor a major rise in digital transactions took place.
