Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today announced that a memorial dedicated to Shaheed Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh (13 Raj Rif) would be constructed at the soldier’s native village Dadhiya in Sidhi district.
L/Nk Singh — belonging to the 13th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles Regiment — was martyred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch District on Tuesday while defending the Line of Control against Pakistani soldiers.
Mr Chouhan participated in the martyr’s funeral procession at Dadhiya. He shouldered the bier and laid a wreath on the body.
Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh was also present on the occasion, an official release said.
Paying tributes, the Chief Minister announced Rs 15 lakh cash assistance, a government job and a residential plot to L/Nk Singh’s widow Durga Devi.
“Madhya Pradesh has lost another brave son. His sacrifice will always be remembered,” Mr Chouhan said while condemning Pakistan’s dastardly attack in the strongest terms.
A large number of people gathered to have a last glimpse of L/Nk Singh. Public Works Minister Nagendra Singh, Labour Minister Jagannath Singh, Parliamentarian Govind Mishra, other public representatives and several persons paid tributes.
