Centre Adopts Bhavantar

The “Bhavantar” Yojna of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr.Shivraj Singh Chouhan is so unique, noval and successful that many other states and now the Central Government also are adopting it.

So far the Central Government is announcing every year the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the procurement of 25 crops directly from the farmers at the Government procurement centres.

In Madhya Pradesh a peculiar problem arose due to bumper production of onion, tomatoes and potatoes. The prices of these vegetable category items crashed and farmers have no market even to recover the cost price and they threw it away on the roads.

Mr.Chouhan purchased the onions at higher price upto Rs.6 and 8 per kilo in its entire quantity that farmers brought out. It caused loss of crores of rupees to the State Government but it saved the farmers from total ruin.

The solve this problem Mr.Chouhan formulated “Bhavantar” yojna that is to pay difference between the open market prices and farmers prices. From many other states teams came to Madhya Pradesh to study this “Bhavantar” scheme.

Now the Central Government also decided to declare market support prices for potatoes, onion, tomatoes on such vegetables item not covered under the minimum support price.
