CBI registers case against official of GST dept for demanding bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against an official of the GST Department for allegedly demanding bribe from a complainant.

The probe agency has booked Deepak, Official of the GST Department located in Air India Building of Mumbai’s Nariman Point, under Section seven of Prevention of Corruption Act following a complaint from an exporter of general tools and equipment.

In the FIR registered on September 8, the complainant alleged that Deepak had demanded Rs 5000 from him for processing his application and issuance of bond certificate for export.

He also stated when his peon visited the GST office for bond certificate, Deepak had informed that the application was processed but he won’t give him unless payment was made to him.
