The CBI team, led by senior officer Sandip Tandadhe, came down from Mumbai for a detailed questioning of GC Murmu, Principal Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, till late last night.
The team also questioned AK Sharma, JCP, Crime Branch, in connection with the audio tapes submitted by the IPS officer on bail GL Singhal had submitted to CBI.
The tapes are believed to be a record of a meeting attended by the state’s junior Home Minister and other senior police and administrative officials, and which purportedly discussed the ways to counter the probe in Ishrat case and how to create hurdles in the court proceedings, CBI sources said.
The CBI team also is believed to have taken Murmu and Sharma’s voice samples.
Murmu is the first IAS officer to be questioned by the CBI in connection with the fake encounter case.
Earlier, in its report, web portal The Tehelka had claimed that the meeting, proceedings of which were recorded by Singhal on his mobile phone, was attended by Minister of State for Home Praful Patel, Singhal, Gujarat advocate-general Kamal Trivedi, senior IAS officer GC Murmu, Singhal’s lawyer Rohit Verma, then MoS (law) Pradipsinh Jadeja and another accused police officer, Tarun Barot.
The JCP of the city crime branch, AK Sharma, were present at the meeting on November 19, 2011.
