Can’t transfer her to TN: Karnataka CM

Much to the chagrin of her supporters, AIADMK chief Jayaram Jayalalithaa will remain in prison as the Karnataka High court today rejected her bail application in the disproportionate assets case.

A single Judge of state HC turned down her plea for bail and suspension of the sentence awarded by Special Court here in the DA case against her. Now, her counsel may move the bail application in the Supreme Court, but no word was available immediately on her next move. In Chennai, ecstasy turned into agony within minutes for AIADMK cadres.

They burst into joy first, under the impression that their leader had been granted conditional bail.

Mr Ramesh, a member of Ms Jayalalithaa’s legal team, briefing reporters outside the HC premises, confirmed that the court had rejected the bail petitions and termed it as a ‘pre determined judgement’. ‘We will appeal against the order in the Supreme Court in a day or two and we are hopeful of an early release of Ms Jayalalithaa,’ he contended. But even as AIADMK supporters started bursting crackers and distributing sweets, the news that the High Court had denied bail to Ms Jayalalithaa hit them like a thunderbolt.
