Agencies, New Delhi The Bharatiya Janata Party today threatened to disrupt the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament if Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh do not apologise for Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s ‘’Hindu terror’’ remarks and sack him.
‘’If Ms Gandhi and the Prime Minister do not apologise for Mr Shinde’s remark and sack him, the BJP will take this fight in both the Houses of Parliament when the session is started. We will take this agitation to its logical end,’’ newly-elected BJP chief Rajnath Singh said addressing the party activists during a protest against Mr Shinde at Jantar Mantar here. The principal Opposition party staged a nationwide protest against Mr Shinde. He said the BJP will create ‘’such situation’’ in Parliament that the Congress president ‘’will have to remove Mr Shinde.’’
Mr Singh said Mr Shinde’s statement has given an ‘opportunity’ to Pakistan and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed to blame India. ‘’Hafiz Saeed is saying that India is responsible for terrorism and not Pakistan,’’ the BJP chief said. He said the BJP was expecting a statement from Ms Gandhi on Mr Shinde’s remarks but the Congress ‘high command’ has been silent due to vote bank politics. Mr Singh, a Lok Sabha MP from Ghaziabad, said the people were expecting that the Congress will discuss the issues concerned to the nation at its recent ‘’Chintan Shivir’’ as it was the ruling party at the Centre. ‘’There are political and economic problems before the country. The country is facing price rise, corruption, terrorism. The people were expecting that the ruling party will discuss these issues. But no result came from the Congress’ Chintan Shivir,’’ the BJP president added. He said, ‘’Only two things came from the Congress’ session— one promotion of Rahul Gandhi and the second Mr Shinde’s allegation against the BJP and the RSS.’’ Addressing the protest, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said the Congress chief and the Prime Minister must apologise for Mr Shinde’s remarks and sack him. Ms Swaraj slammed the Congress leaders and Home Secretary R K Singh for ‘defending’ the Home Minister’s comment at the AICC session in Jaipur last week that ‘whether it is the BJP or the RSS, their training camps are promoting Hindu terrorism.’
The Home Secretary had defended Mr Shinde saying that during investigation into the blasts in Samjhauta Express, at Mecca Masjid and at Ajmer Sharif, the probe agencies named 10 people who were associated with the RSS at some point or the other. Ms Swaraj alleged that the Home Secretary was talking about those people who had relations with the RSS in the past. ‘’Congress minister Mahipal Maderna, Gopal Kanda are facing charges of murder. Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi is facing charges. But we never said the whole Congress is a criminal organisation,’’ Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said. Ms Swaraj added that the BJP will continue the protest against the Union Home Minister.
