The Congress today asked the BJP and its Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi to clarify on their alleged relationship with Afroz Fatta, the alleged kingpin of one of the biggest hawala rackets unearthed a few days back.
Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala posed several questions to Modi and the BJP on the Hawala racket, unearthed on March 22 this year by the Enforcement Directorate of Surat and Ahmedabad after raids conducted on the residence of Afroz Fatta.
‘’On March 22 of this year, Enforcement Directorate of Surat and Ahmedabad had unearthed a hawala racket which at that point of time was worth 700 crores of rupees. This came to the fore after raids conducted on the residence of Afroz Fatta, a well known BJP supporter and prodigy of Modi who has often been seen in various social and political functions including holding meetings in the office of the chief minister (Modi),’’ Mr Surjewala said .
Mr Surjewala said this money-laundering racket, unearthed by the Enforcement Directorate, showed that money got through this process was used for gold smuggling which was being promoted.
Seeking an answer from the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his alleged ‘covert relationship, protection and friendship with Afroz Fatta, Mr Surjewala said,’’Mr Modi and the BJP should clarify what is the nature of his relationship with alleged hawala kingpin Afroz Fatta.
We also want to ask them whether complete complacency of Mr Modi and his Government to one of the biggest hawala racket, being run in Surat under their nose and eyes, points towards their complicity or indifference in upholding the law and checking nefarious elements involved in anti national activities.’’
Mr Surjewala said that the entire incident had an underworld connection to it and asked Mr Modi to clarify his relationship with the underworld don Bablu Srivastava.
